Digital Platform Launch: EMA@School Goes Online

Carleton University and Vretta partner to launch the digital version of EMA@School, bringing research-based numeracy screening to scale.

A New Chapter for EMA@School

In 2024, Carleton University and Vretta Inc. officially partnered to launch the digital version of EMA@School, bringing over 20 years of mathematical cognition research into a modern, scalable digital platform.

What’s New in the Digital Version

The digital platform at ema.vretta.com preserves the research integrity of the original paper-based assessment while adding powerful new capabilities:

  • Instant scoring: Results are available immediately after students complete the assessment, eliminating manual scoring and data entry
  • Item-level data capture: Every response, skip, and timing signal is automatically recorded for rich diagnostic insight
  • Standardized administration: Items are presented one at a time in a controlled sequence, ensuring a fair and consistent experience for every student
  • Multi-level reporting: Graphical reports at the student, class, school, and board levels
  • Enterprise integration: SSO support (Microsoft & Google), API access, and Power BI connectivity

Designed for Scale

The digital platform is purpose-built for school board and Ministry-level implementations. Whether deploying across a single district or an entire province, the platform scales with your infrastructure, including automated rostering, centralized access management, and data flows that connect to existing systems.

Research Continuity

The digital version was developed in close collaboration with the original research team at Carleton University’s Math Lab, Dr. Heather Douglas and Dr. Jo-Anne LeFevre, ensuring that the assessment’s psychometric properties and research foundation remain intact in the digital format.
